The 2008 Midlands Master Gardeners Symposium is pleased to offer participants an opportunity to visit Phillip Jenkins’ fabulous garden. It is breathtaking in late March, and you will come away with new design ideas and inspiration for your own garden. Phillip’s garden has been featured in the magazines Southern Living, Lake Murray/Columbia, South Carolina Homes & Gardens, and on the Garden Smart (formerly The Southern Gardener) television show. He travels several states on a regular basis collecting the unusual.

The tour is scheduled for Wednesday, March 26 from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. and then again following the Symposium on March 27th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. His home is located in northwest Columbia, convenient to the Columbia Conference Center. Your Symposium confirmation will serve as your admission ticket. If you take the tour on March 26, keep your confirmation. You will need it to register for the Symposium on the 27th.

Whether you are seeing his garden for the first time or the fifth, you won’t want to miss it. So grab some fellow participants, ‘do lunch’ on Wednesday, and then meander through his garden for what will be just a delightful afternoon - OR - stop by after the close of Symposium.

Directions:

From the Columbia Conference Center, Take I-26 north toward Spartanburg.

Take Exit 102B - Highway 60 East (Lake Murray Blvd.).  (The exit ramp will only allow you to turn right onto Lake Murray Blvd.)

Immediately get in the left lane and take a left at the first light onto Kinley Road.  (There will be an Extended Stay Inn at this light.)

Continue on Kinley until you get to the second traffic light.  (At some point on this route, Kinley will have become Kennerly Road.)

Take a right at the new traffic light onto Hollingshed Road.  (If you mistakenly turn left, you will be on Fire Tower Road.)

Go past pond and Crescent Hill Plantation. House will be on the left about 1 mile after turning onto Hollingshed. Look for balloons.

Park on the right side of the road across from the house.
