Ted Stephens founded Nurseries Caroliniana in North Augusta, South Carolina, in 1973. His retail garden center focuses on rare and unusual plant material. (We might add that his nursery is a favorite destination for gardeners throughout the region.) In 1990, a wholesale division was begun in order to offer plants to other nurseries throughout the southeast. Ted travels to Japan and other foreign countries on an annual basis to collect new plant selections for introduction to the American market. He is also introducing a number of his own selections which were developed on site. Ted has recently begun a mail order division, where many of his plants are shipped nationally and globally to reach nurseries in Japan, Australia, New Zealand and England. Ted has served as the past president of the S.C. Nursery and Landscape Association and currently serves on the advisory board for the S.C. Botanical Garden and the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame. Ted received B.S. and M.S. degrees in Ornamental Horticulture from Clemson University.

Tamson Yeh has worked for Cornell Cooperative Extension for the past eleven years and has a PhD. in Plant Sciences and a M.S. in Animal and Veterinary Science from the University of Rhode Island. She also has a B.A. from Wells College. She recently completed a book entitled Can My Petunia be Saved? Her book lends a light-hearted approach to practical solutions for a happy, healthy garden. She reports that: "In addition to goosing bad politicians with her soil probe, she enjoys the icky, slimy side of life and has never met a bug or a disease she didn’t like. She has two long-suffering children, an out-of-control beagle, four exasperated cats and five very smug parakeets. In her next life she wants to come back as a dandelion because she’ll irritate the heck out of everyone and they’ll never be able to get rid of her. But … she’ll be a bright yellow spot in the lawn and a source of pollen for beneficials. Now that’s karma!"
